Every autumn Switzerland’s largest city, Zurich, plays host to Switzerland’s and Europe’s biggest wine fair, the Expovina. It takes place on board a number of lake steamers, all linked together at lakeside in the heart of the city.

Typically, some 130 exhibitors on 170 stands offer some 4,000 wines for tasting, and there are special events to discuss wine and educate the public about wine culture.

Switzerland, itself, is a substantial wine producer, and the quality of its product is acknowledged to be world class.

At the Expovina, Bob Zanotti had a chat – and a glass or two of wine – with one of Switzerland’s leading wine authorities, Othmar Stäheli.
