The English-Speaking Community of Leysin

The sprawling village of Leysin lies on a plateau overlooking the Lake of Geneva in the canton or state of Vaud in French-speaking Switzerland. At over 1200 meters/4000 ft., the village is wide open and surrounded by even higher mountains. This is a family-friendly sports and wellness paradise in both summer and winter, and is famous for its healthy climate and air.

But one of Leysin’s very special features is that it is home to a large number of English-speaking people who have settled and made a home there since the early 1960’s. They’ve also made a major contribution to the economic and cultural development of the village.

Bob Zanotti has the story.
