WBCQ – New Transmitter
The name Allan Weiner will be very familiar to North American SWLs. Allan started off as a pirate broadcaster in the New York area back in the 1960’s. But today he’s the owner and general manager of WBCQ, a major privately-owned and licensed shortwave station based in the US state of Maine. In a major technical development, WBCQ has constructed a new 500 kW transmitter facility which features a rotatable curtain array antenna, which will make WBCQ a truly worldwide shortwave station. This is major news in shortwave broadcasting at a time when shortwave stations are being dismantled, not built. Bob Zanotti spoke with Allan Weiner via Skype.
